Important Information
Genuine Brother LC436 and LC436XL ink cartridges have a number of unique serial numbers encrypted onto their chips. Every time you use a cartridge it uses one of the unique serial numbers. If it detects it has used a serial number previously it will give a cartridge error and that cartridge cannot be used
All aftermarket cartridges (including ours) are fitted with a chip encoded with one serial number for example A2/N1. We have the chip ID number printed on a sticker on the side of each cartridge. It's important to know that when you need a replacement cartridge, you cannot install the identical serial number. It will need to be a different serial number, otherwise you will receive a cartridge error message. However, you can use the same serial number in the future, just not immediately after the same number. For example, if you are using Serial number A2/N1 and it registers empty. When you replace the cartridge it can be any serial number other than A2/N1, for example A2/N2 would be ok. Once that cartridge (A2/N2) goes empty, your new cartridge can have the original serial number (A1/N1) and will work. You just can't use the same serial number directly after each other. This type of chip memory is called interval memory and whilst it's a nuisance, it's worth the small inconvenience given the savings using non-genuine cartridges
When purchasing fresh cartridges it's a good idea just to give us a call on (03) 9005 5555 (open 9-5pm Mon-fri) to confirm what serial number you are currently using to ensure we do not send out a cartridge with the same serial number you are about to replace.
You do not need to do this (contact us) if you have not used any non-brother branded cartridge previously (i.e. your first purchase)
